2010 Annual Meeting Recap

The Society held its 2010 Annual Meeting on May 14th in Altamonte Springs FL to propose and discuss revisions to the SEGS constitution. The new officers were introduced and presentations were made on the status of the organization and recent efforts by the Executive Committee, including a business report from the Secretary-Treasurer.

Proposed changes to the SEGS constitution are being developed and will be posted here on the website for review and consideration by our members. We will also be forwarding the proposed revisions by mailed ballot, as mandated by the current constitution, for further consideration and approval by our active members. We would like to hear from you in advance for input and feedback, so please don’t hesitate to comment by emailing us at info@segs.org and we will post the comments we receive.

Most important to the future of the Society is how we operate as an organization and what services we provide to our members and the community. We will also be asking members to consider a review and increase in the annual membership to facilitate the growth and services we would like to provide. This includes more field activities and social events, but also our commitment to geosciences education and the pursuit of a scholarship program. Other proposed revisions include offering a student membership, and some basic housekeeping, which includes changing the business calendar of the Society. Remember though that we need a super majority consensus from our active members to enact changes to the constitution. Your involvement is critical and necessary, so please stay tuned, get involved and speak up!
