Field Trip Registration price includes entrance to all 3 mines the day of the trip, November 15th, 2025. Attendees will need to bring their own food and water for the day. Standard mine safety equipment is required for the trip. Steel toe boots, high visibility vest or shirt, and hard hats are required. SEGS has a limited number of vest and hard hats for loan. Description
SEGS is happy to offer a fieldtrip for SEGS members for a full day of geological exploration inside 3 quarries in Crystal River, Florida. We will have the opportunity to take home samples of Upper Eocene Ocala Limestone and Avon Park Formation limestones and dolostones. A variety of calcite, dolostone, and well preserved plant remains are some examples of what can be found. Bring your rock hammers, chisels, and pry bars!

We will meet at Big Lots parking lot located at 146 SE US Hwy 19, Crystal River, FL 34429 the morning of the 15th of November at 8:30 am. From here we will gather and organize into groups so that we can minimize vehicle traffic in the quarries. This will be an all day trip concluding at 5 pm.
Meals will not be provided by SEGS. Please bring enough food and snacks for yourself. We will plan to take lunch at the second pit around 12-1 pm.
